NetBeans the best for Ruby and Rails.
Aptana is cool for Ajax or not simple JS.

Dear Ariel:

Wow really...? Well RAM is a crucial factor I guess. I have 1 GB in a Core Duo 1.7 GHz and if I run other apps (e.g. Firefox, *shudder*) beside any of Aptana, NetBeans, or JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA I really won't expect a good performance. I'm running Ubuntu Feisty here. The Java + IDE themselves can take as much 600 MB RAM, probably more, but maybe this is because of my improper (?) setup.

I love NetBeans, but the new 6.0 version can get slow on smaller machines. I thought my box was neat, Acer 2.4 Mhz Celeron with 768 MB RAM, but it gets really slow running NB. I guess all those new SWING features add up!

Aptana and Netbeans are really very cool. I like too JEdit>/a> with some plugins for ROR.
